Bayport Flower Houses, located at940 Montauk Highwayin Bayport, is a long-standing tradition on theSouthShore- serving these communities since 1932. Bayport Flower Houses began as a wholesale carnation grower, selling to theNew York Citymarket, under the management of Maria & Paul Auwaerter. In the 1930s, while the carnation crops were being harvested many of the stems would break off short. The wholesale market only demanded long stems so the short stem carnations were put in a bucket and placed outside the packing shed for people passing through to the local cemeteries.
Today, over 75 years later – Bayport Flower Houses is still under the management of the Auwaerter family. Gisbert Auwaerter, his son Karl and his daughter, Christine, head up a dedicated team of horticulturists and floral designers providing the local communities with the beauty of flowers & plants. While the business focus has changed from wholesale carnations to a renowned Retail Flower Shop,GardenCenterand Landscape – the focus on customer service has never wavered.
This Spring the staff at Bayport Flower Houses has been busy cleaning, improving, growing, learning and much more. You will find a more extensive array of plants, garden accessories and giftware then ever in our history. Bayport Flower Houses has been named one of the Top Revolutionary 100 Garden Centers in theU.S.by “Today’sGardenCenter” magazine for the past three years. We are also members of a selective cooperative of garden centers called the Home & Garden Showplace. This affiliation recognizes us as one of the premier gardens centers and allows us to access valuable information needed to offer outstanding service and quality plants and products. This is much the way FTD has helped in our renowned Flower Shop.
